As organisations, collectives and activists of the animal rights and animal liberation movement in several countries, we call for support for the Baladi – Palestine Animal Rescue Team in the West Bank. Animal rights work and the care for animals in Palestine are increasingly threatened. Join our fundraising campaign and let us help to preserve and protect them!
While Gaza has been almost completely annihilated by the Israeli genocide, the situation in the occupied West Bank is also becoming worse and more dangerous every day. Hardly covered by the Western media, the increasing atrocities of the occupation forces and the attacks by militant settlers are directed against Palestinians, their land and their livelihoods—and also against animals. Examples range from blocking the supply of (veterinary) medical care to the shooting of goats, donkeys and other animals.
Founded in 2020, Baladi works in the West Bank, arranging adoptions for stray animals, subsidising veterinary visits and organising shelters for animals. As part of Vegan in Palestine, Baladi also promotes veganism and creates vegan versions of traditional Arabic dishes to raise awareness of the coexistence of humans and animals. Under precarious conditions of Apartheid and with limited resources, Baladi offers direct help for animals and makes an important and invaluable contribution to animal rights work in Palestine.
As animal rights and animal liberation activists, as leftists and as internationalists, it is our obligation to support our friends from Baladi financially and politically—especially now, when genocide continues under the guise of a dictated »peace« and the annexation of Palestinian land is pursued with relentless brutality. We therefore call on the animal rights and animal liberation movement and the vegan community to raise funds for Baladi, to inform people about their work and also to send a clear message in support of the liberation of Palestine.
Instead of being fooled by the »veganwashing« of Israeli occupation, animal rights and vegan activists must join the global movement for solidarity with Palestine. Anyone who advocates for the liberation of humans and animals from injustice, oppression and exploitation must also support the liberation of the Palestinian people. So let’s take a stand and back up Baladi!
